Crown

A crown (commonly referred to as a cap) are used to improve a tooth for many reasons, for example:
To repair a damaged / broken tooth
To protect a cracked tooth
To improve on aesthetics generally at the front of the mouth
To improve appearance of existing crowns
To protect a tooth from fracture after root canal treatment
The process of making a crown involves shaping the tooth and taking an impression.
They are usually constructed to a higher quality in the laboratory.
Three broad categories of restorative material exist for a crown. The material chosen is determined by clinical and aesthetic needs.

   1. Porcelain fused to metal
   2. All Ceramic (all porcelain)
   3. Gold

The all ceramic crowns types (Lava and Procera) are light-transmissive and are regarded as extremely natural.
